Files & Storage
GW Launcher writes its files next to the executable, which is why it should live in its own folder (see install).
Files it creates
| File | What it is |
|---|---|
Accounts.json |
Your account list — logins, paths, per-account mods. Encrypted if encryption is on. |
Settings.json |
Launcher settings. |
d3d9.dll |
The gMod shim used to load TexMods. |
plugins\ |
Optional folder you create for mods that apply to every account. |
Accounts.json format
When encryption is off, Accounts.json is plain JSON you can edit by hand — then
Refresh Accounts to reload it:
[
{
"email": "[email protected]",
"password": "hunter2",
"character": "My Character",
"gwpath": "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Guild Wars\\Gw.exe",
"extraargs": "-lodfull",
"title": "Main",
"elevated": false,
"is_steam_account": false,
"usePluginFolderMods": true,
"mods": []
}
]
| Key | Meaning |
|---|---|
email / password |
Login credentials (omit for Steam accounts). |
character |
Character name shown in the list. |
gwpath |
Full path to this account’s Gw.exe. |
extraargs |
Extra command-line arguments for the client. |
title |
Optional label; overrides character in the list/window title. |
elevated |
Launch as administrator. |
is_steam_account |
Marks a Steam copy. |
usePluginFolderMods |
Load mods from the plugins folders. |
mods |
Per-account mod list (managed via the Mod Manager). |
If encryption is on, Accounts.json is not human-readable. Edit accounts through the launcher
window instead, or temporarily disable encryption in Settings.
Backing up
To move GW Launcher to a new machine, copy the whole folder — Accounts.json and Settings.json
carry everything. If encryption is on, you’ll need your master password on the new machine.
